Ah, wedding season! Of all the questions I receive, what to wear to a wedding tops them all. I’ve written several posts about this topic before (for example here and here) but today I want to talk specifically about what to wear to a daytime or informal wedding.
One quick note – if it’s a daytime wedding but the invite says “black tie” then this post is not relevant and you should do exactly the opposite of what I’m recommending in this post!
So assuming you’re attending a daytime or informal wedding, you want to avoid any long gowns or sparkly dresses (say no to sequins). If possible, you should also try and steer clear of black dresses as they can come across as more formal. And this should hopefully go without saying but no matter how informal or formal the wedding is never wear white unless the bride specifically requests you too!
The best choice for an informal daytime wedding is a maxi dress (by definition a maxi dress is always long). If the wedding is really causal you can wear a skirt and top or sundress. The maxi dress I’m wearing in this post is a great example of what to look for when shopping for a dress. The fabric is flowy and has an ease to it (which reads less formal than a stiff fabric), the length is long, and it’s colorful! I personally love this maxi dress too because of the cut (which emphasizes the shoulders) and the color (which would be flattering on both blondes and brunettes)!
I’ve shared some other dresses which would be perfect to wear to a daytime wedding below so make sure to check them out and I’ll be back tomorrow with another wedding related post – what to wear to a wedding shower! As always let me know if you have any questions in the comments below!
