As you know I’ve always been a proponent of style over fashion. I’m not averse to trends, it’s just that I won’t wear something simply because it’s in fashion. That being said, it’s always fun when my style aligns with a trend, so I’m really excited menswear for women is having such a big moment right now.
Because a lot of people mistakenly equate the term menswear with being masculine, I wanted to show a look that embraces the trend but still has feminine aspects. I also wanted to incorporate chunky / combat boots, which are very popular right now and a large part of the reason menswear is having such a big moment.
First, to balance out the masculinity of the boots, I choose this black pleated skirt. The pleats provide a feminine touch, but the streamlined silhouette (as opposed to being voluminous) maintains the masculine feel. It’s also the perfect length for this menswear vibe. Next I selected this sleeveless turtleneck, which again strikes the perfect balance between masculine and feminine. The neckline and silhouette of the turtleneck feel masculine, but the lack of sleeves gives a feminine touch.
Of course, it is fall right now, so I added this long fitted cardigan. I LOVE this cardigan. The fabric isn’t too thick, so it looks really structured and chic and the length is perfect! Nine out of ten times, I prefer a long cardigan (as opposed to one that stops at your waist), because it has a much more chill, cool vibe. Lastly, for the final touch, I added these rings which are chunky and have a more masculine feel.
The best part of this look is that each piece is a wardrobe staple and can be worn individually and styled in countless ways. Hope you love this menswear inspired look as much as I do. As always, feel free to let me know if you have any styling questions in the comments below!
