Effortless Femininity

When I learned that H&M and Bloglovin’ were teaming up to offer five bloggers a mentorship with Leandra Medine (founder of the Man Repeller – trust me you know her) and a nomination for Breakthrough Fashion Blogger of the Year (literally life changing!) I was beyond excited.
 
The challenge – articulate your personal style and create a look, which exemplifies it. Challenge accepted.
 
Whether I’m sporting a more casual look or wearing a fancy dress, my outfits always have two traits in common – they are effortless and feminine. So what do I mean by effortless? Not-fussy or overwrought (picture the real housewives of the OC, and now imagine the complete opposite of that)! Let’s add in the feminine component. While I certainly love lace and “girlie” pieces, to me feminine style is more than that. It also encompasses being polished, classic, and timeless – think Carolyn Bessette Kennedy.
 
Now let’s talk about the look!
 

I write about full midi skirts so often, that I’ve run out of ideas for naming posts about them (if you can think of any feel free to let me know)! This particular full midi skirt caught my eye because of its fabrication. I love the delicate cutouts, which create the illusion that the skirt is made of lace.
 

Of course the fit and silhouette of a garment are just as important as its fabrication. The placement of the pleats on this skirt are perfect. They add just the right amount of volume (be careful of skirts that have too much pleating and result in a skirt that is too poofy)!
 

On to the top.
 
Yes I’m 37 and yes I am wearing a crop top! Don’t discount an entire category of clothing just because you’re over a certain age – just make sure that the one you choose is age appropriate! I love the details of this top and the bright color is great for summer and perfectly balances out the skirt!
 

Finally the accessories. Never underestimate the importance of accessories and their impact on your outfit! My outfits have an effortless (not-fussy) vibe because the accessories never compete with the garments. Here the delicate necklaces and nude pumps compliment (but don’t take away focus from ) the top and skirt!
